Insight #NigeriaDecides: Fake website claims distribution of N30,000 Tinubu election largesse

Olanrewaju Oyedeji

A trending fake website, “home.weplay.com.ng,” has claimed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is sharing the sum of N30,000 to mobilise voters.

The website reads, “Did you get the ongoing N10,000 Campaign Funds Yet? Get 30,000 naira Bola Hamed Presidential Campaign Funds now?”

After asking for details such as name, phone number, local government, and address, the website also sought the account numbers of participants.

The website also asks, as part of the requirements, that the link be shared with 15 persons or five WhatsApp groups.

While the information on the website goes ahead to claim that over 143,000 persons have reacted to the call, with some of them claiming to have received the money shared by the purported APC group, findings show that the platform host is a cloned website of weplay.com.ng.

The information is misleading, as there is no evidence to back up the claim rather than the spurious numbers on the cloned website.

Dataphyte reached out to the spokesperson of Tinubu Campaign, Dele Alake, to seek clarifications but got no response as of press time.
